From Hair Colour to Colourful Bouquets — My Unexpected Journey into Floristry.

If you had told me a few years ago that I would trade my hair colour brush for floristry shears, I probably would have laughed. I spent years as a colour specialist in the hair industry, helping clients feel like the best version of themselves. I loved the creativity, the transformation, and the confidence that came with it. But deep down, I always knew I had more to explore.

My creative side has always looked for new outlets, and it wasn’t long before I found myself drawn to floral design. It started small — experimenting with artificial flowers to bring beauty into spaces and events. I was fascinated by the endless possibilities of colour, texture, and shape. Soon enough, what began as a hobby became a full-blown passion.

That passion pushed me to learn more, to dive deeper. I made the decision to transition into working with fresh florals and enrolled in formal training. Earning my advanced certificate in floristry wasn’t just a qualification — it was a commitment to this new chapter and to mastering the craft. I learned the language of flowers, the precision of technique, and the art of telling stories through bouquets.

Today, I run The Bouquet Bar Adelaide — a floral business that brings luxury, convenience, and thoughtfulness together. I specialise in designing elegant arrangements for busy professionals who want to make an impression without the stress. Whether it's through our one-time bouquets or thoughtfully-timed subscription services, my goal is to make gifting effortless and meaningful.

The transition from colourist to florist may seem like a leap, but to me, it was a natural evolution. Both are about beauty, emotion, and making someone’s day a little brighter.

Thank you for joining me on this journey. I can’t wait to share more stories, design insights, and behind-the-scenes moments with you here on the blog.

With gratitude,

Melly M
